Aretha Franklin and Feminism

Aretha Franklin - singer of Respect, The Way I Love You, and A Natural Woman. If any girl is ever in need of some feminism then she's the place to get it. But while she's a fantastic, and I mean fantastic singer and songwriter, plus performer, is her inherent feminism actually sexist in its own right? Is this 'Women's only' exclusion in fact leaning to wards shunning one gender in the same way that they themselves have already been shunned? Recently I've been thinking about this little-appreciated conundrum, and I've come to the conclusion that, yes, we definitely should have equal rights to men, but the way to go about this is to be equal ourselves.

Take this for instance: A typical feminist would take the stance that women are always more superior then men. This is not true. men and women are equal and should be treted as such. An extreme feminist point of view is very contradictory and bordering hypocritical. It is very important to keep this in mind next time you see a COD or woman-in-the-kitchen joke, because they are sexist. Never, ever assume that the narrow point of view is the always the right one.

To finish, I'd just like to say that this blog had been an eye-opener for me. I had a wonderful conversation with a close friend today who marveled that I was indeed thinking these things when they were in fact invisible from the surface. For example: Today, I sat down at the computer and though: Well, I have no idea what to write. So I decided that I was probably due for a music post, which actually eventuated in this. A blog allows you to release your thougth in a free and unprejudice environment, much like Aretha's singing. So I greatly encourage you to start a blog. While I have had one for less than a week it is truly a wonderful and inventive activity!
