Recipe for Tomato Pasta

Howdy Partners!

So, I know that I haven't updated in a while but I've been a little busy. Now, I must warn that this post isn't going to be full of deeply serious views about the world we live in, It's just to share with you a recipe  I made a few weeks ago, and to start my cooking slant. So, to make Sophie's Impromptu Stew you need:

6 Roma Tomatoes
2 Teaspoons of Full Black Peppercorns
Decent Pinch of salt
4 Chopped Onions
1 Clove of Garlic
Sprig of Rosemary
Sprig of Thyme
Dollop of Extra Virgin Olive oil
1 cup of water

Directions:

Chop tomatoes in half, then cut out the core with a kitchen knife. Crush with the side of your blade, then put in a large casserole pot. Add the onions, then the garlic, and the oil. Add the herbs. Cook on a stovetop for 30 minutes, then add pepper and salt. Let stew for 2 hours on low, stirring occasionally. If it is watery after this, remove the lid and turn on low for 20 minutes. Serve hot with pasta of your choosing. Hope you enjoy it!

Aretha Franklin and Feminism

Aretha Franklin - singer of Respect, The Way I Love You, and A Natural Woman. If any girl is ever in need of some feminism then she's the place to get it. But while she's a fantastic, and I mean fantastic singer and songwriter, plus performer, is her inherent feminism actually sexist in its own right? Is this 'Women's only' exclusion in fact leaning to wards shunning one gender in the same way that they themselves have already been shunned? Recently I've been thinking about this little-appreciated conundrum, and I've come to the conclusion that, yes, we definitely should have equal rights to men, but the way to go about this is to be equal ourselves.

Take this for instance: A typical feminist would take the stance that women are always more superior then men. This is not true. men and women are equal and should be treted as such. An extreme feminist point of view is very contradictory and bordering hypocritical. It is very important to keep this in mind next time you see a COD or woman-in-the-kitchen joke, because they are sexist. Never, ever assume that the narrow point of view is the always the right one.

To finish, I'd just like to say that this blog had been an eye-opener for me. I had a wonderful conversation with a close friend today who marveled that I was indeed thinking these things when they were in fact invisible from the surface. For example: Today, I sat down at the computer and though: Well, I have no idea what to write. So I decided that I was probably due for a music post, which actually eventuated in this. A blog allows you to release your thougth in a free and unprejudice environment, much like Aretha's singing. So I greatly encourage you to start a blog. While I have had one for less than a week it is truly a wonderful and inventive activity!

The Meaning of Life - Love

Yes... the meaning of life. That huge, popular question which has plagued the human race since the beginning of time. Why are we here? What is or should be our purpose in life? Who made us? Many different races and cultures have theories on this, but they can all be boiled down to one thing: Love. Love your neighbour as yourself, one of the most famous quotes from the bible, tells us how we should go about loving each other: love should be given to others as you would wish it upon yourself. While this is undeniably difficult, it is very important to love care, and respect all around you with equal affection.

Now, many people in our current day cannot find the time or the care for religion. While I myself am an anglican, I understand how difficult it can be to find time in our modern day lives for something which seems so trivial, and so unreachable, that many could not be bothered. This, however, should not be the case. Those who believe in God, and all those who don't, all share the fundamental human paranoia: they have a need to know what their true origins are.

We all have a need, a yearning to know what's out there. Is it a god? A divine being? How do we know that we exist at all? It's hard to think about these questions a s a human, let alone a christian. It is hard, for me I know, to contemplate the great mysteries of life when your religion covers them. It is not that I don't believe in God. Trust em I do. It's just very difficult to be honest with your self when thinking about these matters, as hard as it is to discuss them with fellow christians, as this would sound strange to such ears, and non-believers, as they would not understand. It is, however, important to think of this. So take a moment to believe next time you contemplate the Meaning of Life.

A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

Welcome!

Hey guys!

So... this is my first blog and I must be honest - at first I had no idea what to do with it. Should I be light and Funny? Or dark and intellectual. After reading through a mix  of blogs I came up with this - do whatever. It really doesn't matter. A blog is a place to be yourself, post what you like and generally do whatever you like. You have none of the constraints imposed by sites such a Facebook and Myspace where you know who's viewing your posts and they can't be too good or people aren't going to read them. In your blog it is what you want and when you want it, and if people don't like then it's their problem.
So. How to go about making this my own was another issue entirely. Well... I may as well tell you what I like. my favourite past times include:

  • Reading - fantasy is my favourite but I love philosophical non-fiction as well. Historical fantasy is optimum.
  • Pondering the deep questions of the universe - especially when I can come up with an answer thanks to Mr Douglas Adams...
  • Debating issues - modestly, I'm fantastic at this. (a reminder. My "debating" is really professional arguing. I am queen)
  • Listening to music - as you shall find out in later posts my taste ranges from rock to classical to soul. I enjoy most types of music, but I will not stand for really trashy pop or country. just don't go there.
So... what to post. This is just an Introduction to the wonderful world or me, but I will be writing to you about a broad spectrum of language, history, current events, music, cooking and all round fascination of the world around us. Don't be offended if I'm frank. Like it or Leave it.
